Geothermal electricity production requires puncturing the thin places on our planet’s insulating layer of crust, wherever these shallow spots can be found. Water is injected into the hot earth; the resulting steam is extracted, purified, and then blown through turbines. Baja California's vast Cerro Prieto Geothermal Field is blanketed with many stately contraptions that extract, distill, and transport this steam. These fuming, luminous devices, situated within their miasmic and generative landscape, reference the cylindrical archetypes of humanity's most ancient innovations and possess an undeniably elemental allure.
